New blog…

As our Crenshaw Crew is embarking on a new journey of adopting a child, I wanted to start a new blog.  I think I will end up switching all together, but I am still trying to figure it all out. I just wanted to get it worked out first before I say it is a “permanent” switch! 🙂  Anyway, I have been wanting to switch for a while, but I thought this timing is good so we can document all of the progress of our adopting the next Crenshaw child!  You can hear more about this road we are on…how we started and then throughout the process…how the Lord led us to this point, etc. through this blog.  Look around, see the scripture that God has laid on our heart as a family, and pray for us as we embark on the journey!   We are EXCITED to see what God is going to do!!!

Here you go…

I only have a couple of posts so far, but I will get it figured out…

Manly Things

I am so proud of Austin! It has been so neat to see him grow and change. God has given us SUCH a gift in him! As he grows up, we are praying that he is not launched from our house as a passive man. We are seeking God for wisdom on how to teach him and instill in him how to be a BIBLICAL man….one who “rejects passivity, accepts responsibility, leads courageously, and expects God for the greater reward…” We have many great men around us to help instill these values…incredible, godly grandfathers, coaches, pastors, and BEST of all, his Daddy!

Here is a picture of the two of them just spending time together, doing something manly…making our shutters for our house! 🙂

Yesterday Olivia was not feeling well, and Austin piped in in the back seat and said, “Olivia, I am sorry that you don’t feel good. I wish I could be sick instead of you.” Sweet him, what a precious heart. Thank you, Lord, for giving us the blessing of raising this sweet boy!

My little cheerleader!

For Eliana’s birthday, we decided to celebrate with a UT Cheerleader theme!  She was so cute dressed in her little cheerleader outfit.  Family came in town to see her eat cake for the first time…which was PRICELESS!  She LOVED every second of it!  She cried when I took the tray off of her highchair!  She really had a super fun day!  She loved all the attention JUST on her! 🙂

Here’s the table:

Our “Elle Belle”

I can’t believe our sweet Eliana is ONE today!!!  This time last year was a bit of a crazy time!  We are thankful that she is alive and well today!  God was so good to us in giving us this unbelievable gift.  As her name means….”God has answered our prayers!”  Thank you, Lord!

You can go back to a year ago and see her birth story, but I just wanted to post here today that she is such a blessing in our family.  It is amazing to see the bond that her and Austin have….she LOVES him!  Lights up when he walks in the room!  I know that her and Olivia will also be so close being sisters.  I can’t wait to hear all of the girly conversations between them.  I pray that they will encourage each other to seek Christ above all else.  She is a FUNNY girl!  She has us laughing with all of the things that she can mimic with her mouth!  My mom tries to get Eliana to teach her to roll her “r’s…” with no success yet.  Ha!  Eliana was doing that from about 6 months…too funny.  She is a joy…full of love…cuddles with us, cries for us, wants to be near us, loves to make us laugh, and brings everyone a smile with her little muffled, nasally belly-laugh.  I LOVE THAT GIRL!  Thank you, Lord, for my sweet Eliana Elizabeth!

Here are some pictures…funny, but they are my prayer for her life…that she will HUNGER for God, His righteousness, His grace, and His Word.  I pray that she will seek him whole heartedly from a young age and live her life to glorify Him.

yes! I like this one!

this is good stuff!

hmm...maybe Mom's journal...

great Bible study!

I thought it was hilarious that she was going for all of these…yes…they were the only books on the floor…but!  We just had to take a picture!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY, ELIANA!!!!!

Allison House

Some people are wanting to see the progress on the house, so I thought I would post some pictures here.  Just for documentation sake, we have been talking about building a house (still in our neighborhood, but in a different section) for a couple of years.  We finally felt led by the Lord to a particular lot, and we sold our house in July.  We moved in with our incredible (and loving, patient, godly, kind, and generous!) parents at the end of July, and they poured the foundation of our house less than a month ago (I think that is right)…anyway, it is coming along!  We are so excited about what God has done, and so excited to see what He will continue to do on Allison.  There are a couple of other dear friends moving/have moved there, as well as a couple of dear friends on the surrounding streets.  We cannot wait to get to know and love our new neighbors!

Anyway, here are some pictures of the process….

The nice guy that was “concrete man” let Austin drive the little tractor around!  He was so excited!

Here is the foundation…all poured! 🙂

And, our family after we put our hand prints on the porch! (You’ll have to scroll to the right to see the picture…I don’t know how to fix that!  Sorry!

First haircut

Well, well, well…we finally got Olivia’s hair cut!  Actually, truthfully, it would be slightly trimmed.   Daddy wasn’t too keen on CUTTING it.  I think he might go for a fun new style next time, but he had to start off slow…

So,  right after she got out of the hospital,   I thought it would be a fun Mommy/Daughter date…some fun girl time.   Poor girl…it was a TERRIBLE day!  She was PETRIFIED!  She had just been stuck with needles, attached to iv’s, people coming in to check this or that every so often, and now I take her to get her hair CUT.  Scissors.  They could inflict pain!  I also failed to mention that she HATES getting her haircut!  Maybe b/c of that time that we had a lot of  what we call “ratsnests…” you can scroll down in the blog to find that.  Anyway, after a LOT of talking and processing through, she did great.  We survived the first haircut.  Why did I think it was going to be a day of pampering?!?

Here she is with our hairdresser and friend, Laurel (can you tell how nervous she is?!?):

DSCN1969

Still a little worried… Ms. Laurel kept saying “we are not going to CUT your hair, we only CUT mommy’s hair…we will just trim yours.”  Then, she was okay with it.  So smart, Ms. Laurel…it is all about the words you use!

She loved the pink drape!

Way to go, Liv!  Maybe next time it will be more of a treat for you!

Sibling Love

As a mom, I LOVE when my kids are really loving each other…not arguing over little things, not negotiating, not trying to compete in a race up the stairs, but REALLY laughing and loving and playing together.  Sibling love is so sweet to me.  I am so thankful for my own sweet brother and our relationship, as well as sibling-in-laws now, and I hope and pray that our kids have a deep, loving, growing relationship as they go through both childhood and adulthood.  Really a gift from the Lord.

Here is one moment captured that I love:

bathtub fun 2

We had a sick household at the end of September and beginning of October.  Swine flu made its appearance and sent Olivia to the hospital.  It was so sad, but we are SO VERY thankful to the Lord for healing her little body and that no one else went to the hospital.

Here is part of her hospital stay:

One friend described that above pic as the sweetest, sadest thing to see!  So true…

DSCN1955

The iv’s and shots were so hard for her of course, but she was such a trooper…

DSCN1960

So, the day she got home was SO SWEET.  She missed her brother and sister so much!  It was sweet to see that sibling love…he walked in the room and she was so excited she was squealing and they gave each other the hugest hug!

DSCN1961

Austin was telling her something and she couldn’t keep her eyes off of him…she held her hands together like this and just listened so intently to his every word.  She was just so happy to be around him again!  Too cute!  I love it!

…I pray that they are close through all their years….

Wow…

THAT was a long break!  My sweet nephew’s birthday was like 3 months ago.  I did want to catch up a little, so I will write a little at a time over the next few days…

SO much has happened!  One biggie: Austin started kindergarten!!!!!  It is crazy how time flies, and I know that EVERYone says that, especially when talking about their kids, but seriously…A couple of years ago, I thought that I had plenty of time to think through schools for Austin…I had NO idea how quickly that time would go by.   There was so much to think about, like how God has wired him, his gifts, his struggles, how he learns best, etc. in choosing where he would go to school.  We have been so happy with his school and his teachers.  They have been GREAT, and we are so thankful to the Lord for them!

Here are some pictures of his first day:

Here he is at his table with our neighbor–his buddy in another class:

And…I thought this was so cute…this was during their dedication of the playground (it was a brand new building for early childhood, along with a new playground).

Another sweet one…Olivia came with us to drop him off, and she was getting her last peek at him in his classroom.  It was REALLY sweet.  She loves him SO much, and misses him when he is at school!

More catching up to come…
